Atbash maps each letter to its mirror in the alphabet. A becomes Z, B becomes Y, and so on. Encryption and decryption are the same operation, so feeding the output back in returns the original text. Case is kept, non-letters pass through.

About

Atbash maps each letter to its mirror in the alphabet. A becomes Z, B becomes Y, M becomes N. Encryption and decryption are the same operation. Originated for Hebrew and pops up in puzzles and classical literature.

How to use

  1. Paste your text.
  2. See the Atbash output.

FAQ

Is Atbash secure?+

No. It's a single-key substitution that anyone can solve by hand in seconds. It's a historical curiosity at this point.

Why is encrypt and decrypt the same?+

Because the mapping is its own inverse. A maps to Z and Z maps back to A. Apply twice, you get the original.
