Buying tip

Buy your belt 2 inches larger than your pant waist. The middle hole should fall comfortably at your natural waist; you want one hole of slack on either side. So if you wear 32" pants, buy a size 34 belt.

Belt sizing in the US matches pant size + 2 inches. EU and UK leather goods quote total length in centimeters or inches at the middle hole. This converter assumes standard 5-hole belts; full-grain dress belts often have slightly different sizing.

About

Enter your pant waist size in inches or centimeters. Get the matching belt size in US, EU, UK, and metric notations, plus the letter (S/M/L) approximation. The standard rule is to buy a belt 2 inches larger than your pant size.

  2. Read US/EU/UK/cm belt sizes.

FAQ

Why is the belt 2 inches bigger than my pants?+

Belt sizes are typically measured to the middle hole. Adding 2 inches puts the buckle at a comfortable spot at your natural waist with one hole of slack on either side.

What if my belt has more or fewer holes?+

Standard 5-hole belts use the +2 rule. Some dress belts have only 3 holes; those usually run to the second hole, so go +1 inch instead.
