Roman numerals are diatonic chords in the chosen major key. Capital = major triad, lowercase = minor. Each chord plays for two beats. Same progression in different keys feels different because the absolute pitches change.

FAQ
Why are some chords lowercase?+
Lowercase Roman numerals are minor chords. Capital letters are major. Diminished chords are written with a degree symbol (vii°), but those aren't included in the basic progressions here.
