Fabric Yardage Calculator
Yards or meters needed for sewing projects.
Fabric for Adult t-shirt
1.00 yd
0.91 m at 60" wide
Notes
- Add 10% if the fabric has a directional print or large repeat
- Add 5–10% for plaids and stripes that need matching
- Add 1/2 yard for napped fabric (velvet, corduroy)
- Pre-wash before cutting; cottons can shrink 3-5%
Approximate adult-medium yardages from common pattern sizes. Plus sizes need ~1.25x; kid sizes need ~0.6x. The scale multiplier handles that. Fabric width matters: 45-inch cuts narrower so you need more length. Confirm against your specific pattern before buying.

FAQ
Should I add for shrinkage?+
Yes if you haven't pre-washed. Most cottons shrink 3–5%; synthetics barely shrink. Always pre-wash and dry the fabric on the same settings you'll use for the finished garment before cutting.
