Above 2 cu yd, bulk delivery is almost always cheaper than bagged. A typical truck delivers 5-10 cu yd at a time. For raised beds, the most popular blend is "Mel's mix": one-third compost, one-third peat moss or coir, one-third coarse vermiculite. Most herbs and salads root in 6 inches; tomatoes want 12+.
