About
Enter your current age, income, savings rate, and assumed return. The calculator solves for the date your portfolio crosses $1M. Try changing the savings rate by 5% to see how much sooner you'd get there. Usually shocking.
How to use
- Enter age, current savings, annual income, and the percent of income you save.
- Pick an expected real annual return (7% is a common assumption).
- See the age and date you cross $1M, plus how it shifts with a higher savings rate.
FAQ
Is this in today's dollars or future dollars?+
It depends on the return rate you pick. Use a real (inflation-adjusted) return like 7% for today's dollars. Use a nominal return like 10% for future dollars (which buy less).
What if my savings rate changes over time?+
Use an average. If you save 10% now and expect to save 25% later, somewhere in between is reasonable. Real life is rarely linear, but the rough date is still useful.
