Password Strength Checker
How long would your password take to crack?
About
Type a password and see its entropy in bits and how long a fast attacker would take to crack it offline (10 billion guesses per second) and online (1,000 per second). Highlights what's making it strong or weak: length, character variety, common patterns.
How to use
- Type a password.
- See its entropy and crack times.
FAQ
What's entropy?+
A measurement of how unpredictable a password is, in bits. Each bit doubles the search space. 60 bits is a reasonable baseline for online passwords. 80+ is solid against offline attacks.
Why is length more important than special characters?+
Adding length grows the search space exponentially. Adding one symbol grows it linearly. A 16-character password of common words beats an 8-character mix of types.
