Uses the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table. Use the Joint and Last Survivor table if your spouse is the sole beneficiary and more than 10 years younger. Roth IRAs have no RMDs for the original owner. Missing an RMD costs a 25 percent excise tax (10 percent if corrected within 2 years).

FAQ
When do RMDs start?+
Age 73 if you were born 1951–1959, age 75 if you were born 1960 or later (SECURE 2.0). The first one can be deferred to April 1 of the following year.
What's the penalty for missing one?+
25 percent of the missed amount, dropping to 10 percent if you fix it within 2 years and file Form 5329.
