Each ULID is 26 characters: 10 chars of timestamp followed by 16 chars of randomness. Sortable by creation time.
About
ULIDs are 26 characters, lexicographically sortable, and case-insensitive. They encode a millisecond timestamp followed by random bits, so newer IDs sort after older ones. Better than UUIDs for database keys.
How to use
- Hit generate.
- Pick how many to generate at once.
- Copy the IDs.
FAQ
Why use ULID over UUID?+
Two reasons. They sort by creation time, which makes database indexes happy. And the 26-character format is shorter than UUID's 36.
